New News - July 2026
Hope that you are doing well. It’s been a cracking summer so far - we have been out and about making the most before breaking up for the holidays.
On 13th June, we kicked off this last run of gigs with a lovely street market at Palmers Green, North London. It was a really heart-warming moment when a couple of people sang ‘Man Mother Boy’ back to us! https://youtube.com/shorts/P8fsrch7knE?si=tuWqKzAME6_XvLoW
On 2nd July, we played at our favourite spot, Holtwhites Bakery, also in Palmers Green. This time we were joined by Oscar Schaffer, a local singer-songwriter just turned 17. After doing a set each, we did a few covers together including ‘Human Nature’ by Michael Jackson, which drifted out of the café doors into the summery night and somehow fitted the occasion perfectly: https://youtu.be/oKk-0rL65zo?si=KByzGXMkZxEtVWCk
We were also very proud to have our daughters join the jam for a couple of numbers - ‘Stand by me’ by BB King and ‘Someone like you’ by Adele. On 8th July, we performed in our first ever writers’ round – a tradition that is very common in the States. All acts sit on stage together in a line and take it in turns to introduce and play a song. Despite the heat onstage, we all loved it and it was so interesting to hear from the other artists – Beth Keeping, Owen Jones and Gloria Anderson, who joined us complete with cowboy hat from Nashville itself!
On Saturday, we made it a double and played at Buckden Summer Beats Festival in the early afternoon. There was a lovely crowd in the historical Lion Hotel, one of the oldest coaching inns in England, (1492) - see pic of Nicky below by photographer, Chris Bell. We then hot-footed it back to Enfield for the Lawn Tennis Club’s summer ‘do’ and fun tournament early evening, once again playing with our friend, Oscar Schaffer.
To round off the set, our last gig is tomorrow (Thursday 23rd July) at The Bedford in Balham, South London. Hosted by Radio Wigwam, who kindly awarded us with ‘Best Folk’ Award in January this year. We are on 9.30pm-10.15pm.
